Perennial rivals Raffles Institution paid ACS I a visit yesterday. Both teams were to square off in a pre-season warm up rugby friendly. The C Division (U-14’s) from ACS I played hosts to their rivals from Bishan.

With the threat of rain hovering over the match for the entire first half, good hard running from the ACS lads saw them rack up a half time lead of 22-0 with 4 tries and 1 successful conversion. In the second half, RI tried to mount a fightback and were meters away from the ACS I tryline. However, wave after wave of black attackers were thrown back by the resolute defence from the lads in blue and gold. This broke the RI spirit, and ultimately the men from ACS I racked up 3 more tries in the second half, to run out 37-0 victors.

Simply put, while it counts for nothing at the end of the day, it was a good run out and a morale boosting win for the C Div ACS lads. Captain Mike Yee from ACS I felt that it was the collective frustrations from the recently concluded mid-year examinations which fueled the extra passion in their play today.

Whatever it was that powered them, they should bottle it and use it again one day when the C Div tournament proper starts in July.
