The second last day of the June school holidays. Also the last friendly of the pre-season before the C Division start their campaign proper next week.

From an observer’s point of view, it is heartening to see the C Division boys from ACS (I) gel together into a team. Whether they can actually win the coveted Grand Slam of A, B and C Division rugby titles remain to be seen, but it is heartening to see these lads mature much during the last 2-3 months.

Whatever the outcome in a month’s time, they will learn that standing next to them, is a fellow team member who will be willing to go that mile him, just like all the other members in the team. Because a team is only as strong as its weakest link. Standing alone like a single chopstick, it will snap under pressure. However put 15 chopsticks in a bunch, and you got yourself a cudgel that is able to withstand hits and also inflict damage on the opponent.

It was always my intention to shoot in Black and White one day, and this is my first series in BW. Black and white is really timeless, where everything is only in shades of somewhere between white and black. BW photography alone is an art form. I loved the BW photographs that my friend WCY took for my wedding many moons (and 4 kids) ago. Naturally the rules that govern taking a good picture still exist. A good eye, a steady hand and an ability to tell a story in a photograph.
